Pilates

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Pilates called his method "Contrology.” The benefits of a regular Pilates practice are increased proprioception and internal body awareness, postural strength, and improved flexibility.

I started studying pilates with Dolly Kelepecz when I was getting my Bachelor of Arts in dance at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. It was originally a backup plan for my dance career (as everyone knows, dancers do not make any money). But throughout my adult life it has offered me an interesting template for noticing growth, evaluating my restrictions, and moving through injury. Pilates lessons with me are contemporary in style and geared toward your personal goals and physicality at this moment.

Gyrotonic + Gyrokinesis

This unique, holistic movement system is designed to take the body beyond its limitations. Benefits include a healthier, more supple spine, greater joint stability, improved agility and athletic performance, and a rewarding deep internal strength. The Gyrotonic Method utilizes specialized equipment to assist and guide the body, while Gyrokinesis classes focus on rhythmic, flowing movement sequences performed without equipment.

I discovered Gyrotonic/Gyrokinesis while I was working in a Pilates studio after getting my Masters in Fine Arts at NYU. It is a system that tested my beliefs about where and how I could move. I remember after my first session, the elated feeling of freedom that it seemed each of my cells experienced. It is this quality that I wish to share with all of my clients.

Contemporary Alexander Technique

A unique study of the enriched quality of your life. An Alexander Technique practice will be a continued evolution of personal awareness and an ability to make dynamic choices in any and all aspects of your life.

After a major dance injury where I fractured my spine, I was driven to defy all odds  and continue to move forward. This strident approach was very useful in the first years recovering from my injury. However, it became such a habit that I began to chase every aspect of my life around with a figurative sledgehammer. The Contemporary Alexander Technique has given me a lifelong study to make more conscious choices about the quality of my life. It has been a study where I have become a more mature mover and human being. Sessions feel a little like a conversation of two souls. This is my newest teaching process and I look forward to its evolution.
